What a week!
I was really impressed with the effort and creativity of all students this week, as we have been working on collaborating with classmates.
We have been studying Native American Folktales. Students have each picked a story that they will retell on the computer, using an app called Voice Thread. We are working on using expression, elaborating, and adding dialogue to these stories.
Groups of students are in charge of studying one of the five Native American regions and creating a poster comparing and contrasting the difference in tribes, beliefs, clothing, daily life, housing, food and traditions.
Students are wrapping up their first drafts of their realistic fiction-writing piece. I am very impressed with the writing that students are producing, using all the skill we have talked about. Specifically, students have shown their ability to use transitions, organize their writing (paragaphs), show rather than tell (elaborate), and use dialogue.
In theme, we spent this week talking about the French and Indian era. Using manipulatives, students are able to reenact what was happening in the VT area during this era. Students also added to our timeline, and were even given the task to write a petition for a grant of land from the governor of NH, Benning Wentworth—only some students were granted this land!!
The 3/4 team is hoping to have a parent night to bring families into school and see what we have been studying about the amazing state of Vermont! Hopefully, this will be happening on Wednesday, February 17th!
Have a great weekend!
